Our Trust is very grateful for the support of Environment Canterbury in arranging an upcoming Wallaby control programme that can now be undertaken with the completion of our Predator Proof Fence.
Please be aware that this programme is due to begin shortly and
in the interest of public safety, the entire Point Bush Ecosanctuary area including all walking, biking and mountain biking tracks will be closed to the public from the 28th of June until the 9th of July
All access gates to the Ecosanctuary site will be locked during this time. This is to allow for toxins (Feratox – Cyanide) to be hand laid to control wallabies.
The dates are approximate and subject to weather - the contractors are High Country Contracting and they will be updating us should there be any need to change these dates dependant upon weather.
Upon re-opening after the control programme has been completed, all toxic baits left as placed will have been removed, but Warning signs will remain in place for a caution period of 4 months. This is to account for any bait that has been removed from the bait stations but not consumed by animals. Animal carcasses are non-toxic. Please remain vigilant while warning signs are in place. It is recommended to keep dogs out of the area during this time. Taking Dogs (or other animals) into an area where a toxin caution is in place puts them at risk. Please also keep children under direct supervision during this time.
Thank you for your understanding and support of our Ecosanctuary vision - if you have any questions regarding this notice please feel free to email pointbushecosanctuary@gmail.com
