The short version of this is.... Wallabies are running amok!
With more of us getting out walking the tracks under L3, it is evident from the very many well defined wallaby tracks that there is a lot of activity going on in the wider region, and certainly we haven't escaped this in the Ecosanctuary!
Many of you have reported back to us that they have sighted several bold wallabies in daylight hours calmly hopping around the hills!
The article says it all and the alarm bells are well and truly ringing loudly! There are now road signs in Fairlie and Geraldine warning drivers of "WILD LIFE" on roads as there have been as many as 50 found dead on roads in this area alone.
Do have a read through Sally Brooker's article, and watch the TVNZ feature - and we would encourage share it with as many of your environmentally interested friends and colleagues as possible. We are in close contact and liaising with E-CAN and DOC authorities who are grappling with this issue that is so pertinent to the Hunter Hills and wider Waimate District area.
Until next time on the "Biome Blog" - take care,
Ann Dennison
